Heroes: Mortals and Monsters, Quests and Adventures by Stephen Fry

There are heroes - and then there are Greek heroes.

Few mere mortals have ever embarked on such bold and heart-stirring adventures, overcome myriad monstrous perils, or outwitted scheming vengeful gods, quite as stylishly and triumphantly as Greek heroes.

In this companion to his bestselling Mythos, Stephen Fry brilliantly retells these dramatic, funny, tragic and timeless tales. Join Jason aboard the Argo as he quests for the Golden Fleece. See Atalanta - who was raised by bears - outrun any man before being tricked with golden apples. Witness wily Oedipus solve the riddle of the Sphinx and discover how Bellerophon captures the winged horse Pegasus to help him slay the monster Chimera.

Heroes is the story of what we mortals are truly capable of - at our worst and our very best.

As always Stephen Fry is a joy to hear. Though I have come across all of these heroes and stories, hearing them again brought back memories of reading them as comics or books. I would have liked to hear a bit more about other heroes also in addition to the famous ones that we all know about.

Dark One Vol.1 by Brandon Sanderson
Some worlds are made to be broken. Paul is a young man who sees visions of strange and fantastic worldsโ€•visions he initially believes are hallucinations. But these visions turn out to be prophecies, dark projections of a world in which Paul is a tyrant who destroys the world and the creatures that reside there. The Last God was an amazing piece of high storytelling by Phillip Kennedy Johnson. Riccardo Federici‘s artwork is simply out of this world. I spent a lot of time on each panel marvelling at the drawings.

I read these as individual comics: (The Last God: 1-12 and Specials: The Last God: Tales from the Book of Ages and
The Last God: Songs of the Lost Children).

Now I’m looking forward to read more stories set in the Cain Anuun universe.
